Alex Hurn – CEO
Alex graduated from the University of the West of England with a BSc (Hons) Building Surveying and has also qualified as a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Prior to founding Horde Ltd, Alex was the Managing Director of Sillence Hurn Building Consultancy.
Alex has a keen interest in entrepreneurship and can be found attending or occasionally speaking at a range of local, national, and international property events. Alex also sits on the RICS Matrics Hampshire & IOW Committee having previously served as chairman.
Outside of work, you can find him on and off of the fairway, battling to keep that single figure handicap.
Chloe Hylton – Operational Surveying Director
Having previously headed up the residential surveying department, Chloe has a proven track record in delivering exceptional surveying and construction management services for a diverse array of projects.
Her deep-seated expertise and innovative approach have been instrumental in driving our projects to success, ensuring precision and adherence to the highest standards. Chloe’s leadership is not only marked by her technical acumen but also by her unwavering commitment to excellence.
Chloe is also a self-professed Star Wars fan, even owning a pair of R2D2 high heels which she never takes out of their box.
David Drew – Technical Services Director
David brings a wealth of knowledge and over 25 years of hands-on experience delivering residential and accommodation schemes across the UK. He has worked as a consultant Construction Manager, delivering housing in London, and as Operations Manager for a medium sized construction company (circa £40m turnover pa), delivering over 1,000 residential and accommodation units across the South of England.
His strategic vision has been pivotal in ensuring that all technical aspects of our projects are executed with precision and efficiency. Known for his innovative approach and keen problem-solving skills, David consistently drives the integration of advanced technologies and best practices within our operations team.
Also, David was once head-hunted by a Property Developer who, as part of a protracted interview process, took him to Australia for 12 days to experience the culmination of the rugby World Cup in 2003; which concluded in seeing Jonny Wilkinson’s famous dropped goal live in the stadium in Sydney.
Amy Hutton – Marketing Manager
Amy’s analytical skills and keen eye for detail has significantly enhanced our brand’s presence and client engagement, particularly through the transition from Sillence Hurn to Horde Ltd.
Her extensive background in marketing continuously ensures that our consultancy remains at the forefront of industry trends and client needs.
When she’s not driving our marketing efforts, you can find Amy in the top 1% of Justin Bieber listeners on Spotify.
Ryan Townsend – Project Manager
Having started working in the construction industry nearly five years ago, Ryan has project managed throughout the supply chain; from sub-contractors to clients.
At Horde, Ryan coordinates the many facets of our surveying projects with tenacity and efficiency. His strong organisational skills ensure that our projects run smoothly on time, and within budget.
Alongside his qualifications, including BSc Geology, MSc Crisis & Disaster Management, HNC Construction Management, APM PFQ, Ryan is a keen bodybuilder and you can often find him training outside of office hours.
Steve Willington – Senior Building Surveyor
Steve graduated with a BSc (Hons) Design Engineering degree in 2012 and prior to joining the Horde, he worked for a surveying and architectural consultancy in the New Forest.
Steve’s technical background and surveying experience covers a broad range of disciplines, with his main experience lying in dilapidations, contract administration, reinstatement cost assessments and building surveys.
Whilst his knees are not what they used to be, outside of the office Steve enjoys wakeboarding and snowboarding. As a big foodie, you’ll often find him knocking up a storm in the kitchen or perfecting his coffee making skills.
Harjit Johal – Senior Building Surveyor
Harjit enjoys all aspects of project and building consultancy, with a particular interest in dilapidations, project work, and historical buildings.
His journey into the construction/property sector stems back to his school holidays while labouring and learning trades across his father’s residential building projects. He then went on to run the family construction business which led to his career in building surveying.
Since then, he has worked as a Building Surveyor for various international commercial property consultancies. When not on-site, you’ll find Harjit enjoying sport, walks through areas of natural beauty, and family picnics at National Trust properties.
Steven Marshall – Senior Building Surveyor
Steven has over 15 years’ experience as a building surveyor working predominantly within the public sector for a number of local authority organisations.
In the past, Steven has worked on projects covering all aspects of the building surveying profession on a wide range of commercial buildings such as museums, entertainment facilities, leisure and retail centres as well as schools and industrial buildings.
Outside of the office, you can find him playing the guitar; which he claims he is “very average” at despite having practiced for over 25 years.
Will Ellinor – Quantity Surveyor
Will started working in the industry as a Quantity Surveyor back in March 2017 and has since worked for a sub-contractor before moving into the consultancy side of construction in 2019.
His proudest project to date is leading the successful delivery of a critical infrastructure project worth circa £5m for a large data centre company.
Valerie Blandford – Surveying Executive
Before joining the Horde, Valerie worked for a large multidisciplinary consultancy providing support to the Valuation Team.
Valerie has a great deal of experience in property related business administration having worked in this field since leaving college, starting in estate agency and then working in local government for the Valuation Tribunal Service.
Away from work Valerie is a big football fan and is a Southampton Football Club season ticket holder. When the weather permits Valerie spends most of her spare time in the garden or at the allotment where she also keeps bees. Valerie also likes to keep fit and enjoys cruises and skiing holidays especially in her favourite holiday destination Norway.
Kelly Bellerson – Content Manager
From fronting the UK’s leading hospitality magazine in the B2B marketplace to producing content for The Times, she brings a creative mindset and a flare for social media to the role of Content Manager.
With a degree in Multimedia Journalism with Politics, Law, and Ethics, Kelly has a wide variety of experience in the realms of media and marketing. Previously, she has been on-location for a variety of projects including her investigation into county lines gangs and reporting from Parliament Square during the 2019 general election.
When she’s not working, you can find Kelly out on hikes, exploring cities across the country, or planning her next Florida trip.
Samantha Liang – Finance Manager
With a degree in accounting and finance, Samantha has over ten years experience in the industry, now heading up the financial department at Horde.
As a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Samantha has a wide variety of experience from wholesale trade groups to big corps and has worked in both accounts assistant and finance manager roles.
Driven by her enthusiasm for numbers, Samantha works with all of our clients and the internal team to ensure the true transparency of every transaction and is always available to assist with financial advice when needed. Her drive and enthusiastic nature has been a great addition to the team. Outside of work, Samantha enjoys going for walks along the beach and trying new foods!
Abigail Rayner – Residential Sales Manager
Abigail has experience working within conveyancing as a post exchange clerk. She is a qualified Will Writer and Estate Planner, with experience in customer relationship, sales and account management.
Prior to joining the Horde, Abigail worked on movie sets for the likes of Star Wars, Men in Black and Batman. She has also competed at one of the UK’s most prestigious horse shows, Horse of The Year Show!
Andrew Carr – Talent Acquisition Manager
Andrew has more than 12 years’ experience in HR and Recruitment, spanning across various sectors including Insurance, Defence and Space, Autonomous Vehicles, Care and the Public sector.
In the past, Andrew has completely re-designed recruitment functions from scratch, managed highly successful teams and saved companies millions in fees. He moved to Portsmouth in 2012 from Milton Keynes to be with his partner and has loved living by the sea.
Outside of work, Andrew is a little bit of an adrenaline junkie, having completed two skydives with his stepdaughter (10,000 and 15,000 ft) rowed across the channel for charity back in 2013.
