I worked as a Lead project surveyor on projects with costs in excess of £100m, working across multiple sectors including on commercial, education, BtR and PBSA projects for prestigious international clients’ investors including Blackstone, Legal & General and Goldman Sachs.
This required undertaking all aspects of Cost Value reconciliation (CVR), cashflow management, payments, procurement, valuations and contract administration and final account agreement. Acting as the focal point of commercial responsibility on a project and taking a pro-active, collaborative and client driven approach to all professional relationships from contractors to clients and stakeholders.
Proudest Moment
One of my earliest projects was a local primary school that included the functionality to cater towards students with learning difficulties and disabilities. The local community had been fighting for a new school for many years and was finally getting it. It was a two-year programme, but its significance didn’t really hit me until attending the opening day and seeing the students and parents so incredibly excited at their new school. It really made me feel proud that I was able to contribute in a small way.
What does Jake do in his free time?
Growing up in Eryri (Snowdonia), the Mountains became a huge part of my life, and today anything I can mix in with mountains, such as bouldering, rock climbing, mountain biking, snowboarding or simply a day hiking, is just about perfect to me. I’m also a big whisky fan and an avid cook, particularly any food that is full of heat and spices.
Here is a fun fact about Jake
A friend and I once got lost in the Italian Alps and ended up stumbling across an old lodge in the middle of nowhere. Turned out it was lived in by an elderly goatherd cheese maker who would horse and cart his cheese down to town once a month to sell. He had no electricity or running water and made everything by hand. He let us stay, fed us some goat stew, cheese and some mysterious homemade alcohol and saved us.
