Associate Building Surveyor

After graduating, I worked for British Waterways, repairing and refurbishing lock cottages. Shortly afterwards, I moved into the private sector and have worked in property consultancy, predominately in the commercial sector, along with a short time in social housing.

I’ve gained a wealth of varied experience, including traditional surveying services such as planned maintenance programmes, pre-acquisition TDD surveys, defects analysis, schedules of condition, quality monitoring of new build elements within large commercial buildings, feasibility studies, design and specification, and contract administration on a wide range of refurbishment projects.

I’ve worked in several sectors, including commercial, residential, defence and industrial and on modern and listed buildings.

I’ve managed several design teams and developed strategic plans, including setting budgets for planned maintenance spend and implementation, and I’ve controlled the budgetary aspects of various programmes, including cyclical repair and redecoration, decent homes’ external attributes, and safety improvements.

As a former Consultant Member of the National Register of Access Consultants, I have experience in access consultancy, including access audits of existing buildings, access appraisals at the design stage of new-build and refurbishment proposals, and throughout the design and construction stages.

Fun fact about Sophie

At the last count, I have a collection of over 80 gins and 60 rums.

I love any excuse to wear fancy dress and have made many costumes to wear whilst playing golf competitions for myself and my teammates. I’ve dressed as Ghostbusters, the Addams Family, gingerbread men, Father Christmas, an inflatable turkey, the Scooby Doo gang, a Christmas wreath and many more!

What does Sophie do in her free time?

I play golf and go clay pigeon shooting every weekend, and if I ever get any free time, I enjoy cooking – especially making pork pies and scotch eggs of varying flavours.
